Nintendo is ready to inform you that there is a new console coming, it is indeed the Switch 2, and it has Mario Kart. Does that mean a new Mario Kart game is coming soon? Well, at least from the looks of it, yes. A first glimpse at the Nintendo Switch 2 arrived on January 16 with little to no fanfare. Nintendo just kind of dumped it off and said, “Here you go, see you in April at the next Direct.” Now we can confirm what everyone expected from the successor: If it ain’t broke, why fix it?
The Switch 2 is the current eight-year-old Switch tweaked here and there. The controllers will plug in differently, and they’re black now. The screen is bigger, though additional specs are still under wraps. Nintendo confirmed that the new console will, in fact, play old games, along with Switch 2–exclusive games. “Details will be shared on the Nintendo website at a later date,” the company stated. Until then, the new Switch is out in 2025. Thanks for the update!
