A Sunrise man is behind bars after police said he strangled and stabbed his girlfriend during a domestic dispute last month.

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 10 at their home near the 1800 block of Northwest 58th Terrace.

According to investigators, Thomas Eugene Williams, 33, and his girlfriend were arguing over suspicions of infidelity when the situation turned violent.

Sunrise police said Williams lunged at the victim, grabbed her by the neck, and pressed his knee across her neck, applying his full body weight and cutting off her circulation. After releasing her, investigators confirmed that Williams threatened to kill her if she left.

The victim told police that Williams then retrieved what she described as a black switchblade knife and stabbed her on the left side of her rib cage, causing a puncture wound, according to an arrest report.

Despite the injury, police said Williams drove the victim to her mother’s home in Plantation but kept their 1-year-old child in his custody.

The victim’s mother later drove her to the hospital, where detectives said they documented her injuries, including scratch marks and nail impressions around her neck, bruises, and the stab wound.

Sunrise police arrested Williams at his residence around 1:45 p.m. the same day, the report stated. Officers also recovered the couple’s child and returned him to the victim.

During questioning, police said Williams waived his right to remain silent, claiming the victim had attacked him first and that he disarmed her.

However, he admitted to “nicking” her side. A search of the home uncovered a switchblade knife with blood residue, a blood-stained rag, and blood droplets near the hallway, the report stated.

Jail records show Williams is facing one count each of attempted second-degree murder, domestic battery by strangulation, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and violation of probation.

Jail records show he is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail.

Authorities stated in the arrest report that Williams’ actions during the stabbing demonstrated “a depraved mind without regard for human life.”
