Hull High School Sports Update: Track Teams, Gymnastics, Hockey, and Basketball

As the winter sports season progresses, Hull High School’s athletic teams are showcasing their talents and determination on various fronts. From track and field to gymnastics, hockey, and basketball, the student-athletes are making headlines with their performances. Here’s a detailed look at the latest results and upcoming events for each team.

Track Teams Face Tough Competition

On Monday, both the girls and boys high school track teams faced a challenging meet against Abington. The girls’ team fought valiantly but ultimately lost with a score of 60-39. Despite the loss, several athletes stood out with impressive performances. Elsie Harper emerged as a star, winning events in the 55-meter hurdles, 55-meter dash, and long jump. Abigail Baglione also shone brightly, clinching victory in the 300-meter race. Other notable winners included Montana Alibrandi in the shot put and Bree Simpson-Sliney in the high jump.

The boys’ team faced a tougher battle, ending the meet with a score of 50-10. However, there was a silver lining for the boys as Christopher Resnick placed sixth in the high jump at the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Invitational held at the Reggie Lewis Center on January 25. Both teams are gearing up for their next competition at the South Shore League Championships on February 3.

Undefeated Girls Varsity Gymnastics Team

The Girls Varsity Gymnastics Team, a co-op with Hingham, continues to impress as they remain undefeated this season. Although their competition against Pembroke High School on January 24 was canceled, the team showcased their skills by defeating Hanover on January 28 with a score of 135-126.5. With a perfect record of 6-0, the team is set to face Whitman-Hanson on January 31 at 7:15 p.m. and Scituate High School on February 2 at 9 a.m., both at the Massachusetts Gymnastics Center in Hingham. The momentum is certainly on their side as they aim to maintain their unbeaten streak.

Girls Hockey Co-Op Team Sees Improvement

The Girls Hockey Co-Op Team has had a mixed season but recently celebrated a significant victory. On January 25, they secured their second win of the season against Stoughton High School, triumphing with a score of 4-2. However, the team faced a setback on Wednesday, being shut out by Billerica with a score of 4-0. Looking ahead, the team will compete against Boston Latin Academy on February 1 at 6:30 p.m. and Hopkinton High on February 3 at 4 p.m. These upcoming matches will be crucial for the team as they strive to improve their season record of 2-12-1.

Girls Varsity Basketball on a Winning Streak

The Girls Varsity Basketball team is enjoying a successful run, having won their last two games convincingly. They dominated Nantucket with a score of 60-23 on Saturday and followed it up with a close 40-34 victory over Minuteman Regional High School on Monday. With a current record of 7-5, the team is building momentum as they head into the latter part of the season. Their hard work and teamwork are clearly paying off, and fans are excited to see how they will perform in their upcoming games.

Boys Basketball Faces Challenges

In contrast, the Boys Basketball team has encountered some challenges recently. After a close 64-62 loss to South Shore Charter on Wednesday and a significant defeat to Rockland the day before (75-41), the team’s record now stands at 5-10. However, they did manage to secure a solid win against Mashpee at home on January 24, finishing with a score of 70-52. The team is looking to bounce back with two upcoming home games against Calvary Chapel Academy on January 31 at 5 p.m. and Avon on February 4 at 6:30 p.m. A trip to Blue Hills Regional in Canton is also on the horizon, scheduled for February 5 at 6:30 p.m.

Community Involvement and Support

As the sports season continues, the Hull community is encouraged to stay engaged and support their teams. Coaches and super fans are invited to report scores and results from the latest events. Contributions can be sent to [email protected], with a deadline of Tuesday at midnight. When submitting details, it’s important to include the sport/team, players’ full names, and final scores.
