Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón has been noticeably absent for most of awards season since racist tweets were unearthed last month. However, she made it out to the Oscars (despite skipping the red carpet) only to face the wrath of Conan O’Brien’s monologue. Here’s how Gascón reacted to O’Brien’s jokes about the controversial actress.

A monologue to remember

March 2, 2025: O’Brien’s jokes about Gascón were brief but memorable. “Anora uses the F-word 479 times. That’s more than the record set by Karla Sofía Gascón’s publicist. You did what!,” O’Brien joked in a bit that’s shorter than the X character limit. When the camera first panned to Gascón, she pressed her hands together and bowed to the camera. However, during O’Brien’s button on the joke, where he said ”Karla, if you are going to tweet about the Oscars tonight, my name is Jimmy Kimmel,” Gascón was seemingly not paying attention as she leaned over to ask something to the person beside her. So O’Brien (and the Irish) might not fully be safe from a clapback from Gascón.

A return to the ol’ stomping grounds

March 3, 2025: It seems that Gascón got her Instagram password back. The next day after the Oscars, Gascón thanked Academy members for the nomination and the invitation to the gala in an IG caption written in Spanish. She even referenced O’Brien’s monologue when reflecting on the night in her review. She wrote, “I liked it a lot, very pleasant and fun, above all your fabulous host Jimmy Kimmel. He’s fantastic and every day he looks more like the grand Conan O’Brien.” Turns out she didn’t miss the end of his joke.
