Love is blind, but this season, viewers sure felt blindsided by the crumbling of Monica Danús and Joey Leveille’s seemingly carefree relationship. At a Love Is Blindreunion watch party at SXSW, Danús explained that was because the cameras really only captured the couple’s happier moments. “I know what you see is like, we’re golden retrievers — which yes, that is true — but we are multifaceted people,” she said. “We had those deep conversations, but I just wasn’t getting the romance from him. And I believed I was showing it. Then we had conversations and I’m like, ‘Hey, Joey, I need more. Are you interested in me?’ And I was getting nothing.”

While Danús and Leveille did make it all the way to the altar, she admits now that she “should have walked away” sooner, which made for an “embarrassing” watch of the season. “In the moment I was in it. I was feeling all the feelings, thinking of the future, every moment of every day,” she said. “Watching it back, it’s like, ‘Girl, he’s not at the same level you are.’” Today, Danús says she’s “cordial” when she runs into castmates while out in Minneapolis, but “we definitely see each other even when we don’t necessarily want to.”

Correction: A previous version of this article misstated who Danús was referring to seeing in Minneapolis.
