A salute to proletariat ally Phoebe Waller-Bridge! When was the last time any artist managed to seize this much from a major tech company without any production? Waller-Bridge renewed her deal with Amazon, per Deadline. However, she’s moving from her previous two exclusive deals with the company to a first-look deal. Waller-Bridge first signed with Amazon in 2019, re-upped the deal in 2023, and is now re-signing. She has not yet produced any TV shows under any of her deals, exclusive or otherwise. Previously, she was working with Donald Glover on his Mr. & Mrs. Smith TV series, but they parted ways and Glover produced the show without her. Prime Video did green-light her Tomb Raider adaptation last year, and she was confirmed to be narrating a documentary series about an octopus for the streaming service on March 3. Puck reported on March 28 that Tomb Raider has gone through “two writers’ rooms and tens of millions of dollars in development costs” without ever producing a script. Make that corporation’s pockets hurt.
