Against all odds, Miami Marlins off to 8-7 start

Entering Tuesday’s series opener vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks at loanDepot park, the Miami Marlins find themselves above the .500 point.

Sure, the 2025 season is just 15 games in, but for Clayton McCullough’s bunch, it is a very encouraging sight to see.

Let’s think back for a second: Miami did not pick up its eighth win of the 2024 season until May 1 vs. the Colorado Rockies.

At that point, the Marlins were an abysmal 8-24, with their playoff hopes practically on life support.

Fifteen games into 2025, McCullough’s group has only seen two multi-game losing streaks – with both coming to an end the following game, solid pitching from the starting rotation, great at-bats from the likes of Kyle Stowers, Matt Mervis, who has a team-leading five home runs, Griffin Conine and Xavier Edwards, leading the team in hits (18).

One can say April’s schedule has been a kind one to the Marlins, with series against Washington, Arizona, Cincinnati and Seattle, but keep in mind that the Marlins traveled to Atlanta and New York to open the month and, aside from a 10-0 defeat Apr. 4 and 10-5 defeat Apr. 8, played exceptionally well against a challenging Braves and Mets lineup.

The Marlins will probably not win a World Series in 2025 and that is alright, but for a team in the rebuilding process and hoping for long-term success, you have to be very pleased with the product the Marlins have put out on the diamond 15 games in.
