The Helly Hansen Sailing Collection

For years now, Helly Hansen has worked with professional sailors and racers in some of the world’s most challenging conditions. The idea is to learn what makes sense and what needs to be improved when it comes to clothing and outerwear for all kinds of boaters. “What has been a bit different this past year is a bigger focus on building more versatile products, for both consumers and professionals alike,” says Øyvind Vedvik, Helly Hansen’s sailing category director. “Having the right clothing can be a great way to make sure the time on the water is as enjoyable as possible, so thinking through what to wear is great. But learning how to care for the gear and putting together your layers in a versatile way is also important in getting more out of your gear.”

To give boaters a hand with all of that, the company has introduced pieces that are made with new materials and designed with 3D simulations to improve fit and movement.

“The new Ægir Ocean Jacket 2.0 is the lead product in the collection from a design and engineering point of view,” Vedvik says. “The favorite piece for everyday use that’s been picked up by a lot of people both here in the office and in our stores is the HP Hybrid Stretch Insulator for men and women. This is a really cool light insulator piece made in a stitchless baffle material and slick face fleece. It’s a fully stretch construction that is both comfy and versatile, offering just the right level of wind protection and warmth.”

The goal is to make sailing and cruising more comfortable on all kinds of boats, in all kinds of weather—and to look good out there.
