What’s Next in Kim Kardashian’s Journey to Become a Lawyer?

Looks like Kim Kardashian is almost done pregaming for the bar … the bar exam, that is. On May 21, she celebrated her graduation from her Law Office Study Program, an apprentice-style alternative to law school that is allowed in California. Jessica Jackson, one of the attorneys who sponsored Kardashian’s studies, said the Skims founder had “one of the most inspiring law-school journeys we’ve ever seen” in a speech during the backyard ceremony that was documented on Khloé Kardashian’s Instagram Story. “Six years ago, Kim Kardashian walked into this program with nothing but a fierce desire to fight for justice,” Jackson said. “No law-school lectures, no Ivory Tower shortcuts, just determination and a mountain of case-law books to read.” Pictures of handwritten flashcards were used as placemats at her graduation event. People reports that it took Kardashian six years to complete the four-year program due to COVID and work. During that time, she also publicly engaged in criminal-advocacy work, including on behalf of the Menendez brothers.

Does this mean she’s a lawyer now, though? Not quite. Kardashian passed the so-called “baby bar” exam on her fourth try after three previous attempts in two years, and this March, she passed the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam, a prerequisite to taking the bar exam. But in order to become a licensed attorney, she still has to pass the bar exam, which is notoriously difficult to do in California. Only 55.9 percent of test-takers passed the exam this past February, according to a press release from the State Bar of California. The exam is offered twice a year, in February and July. Kardashian hasn’t publicly shared when she plans to take it. But even if she tries and fails, she’ll still get to be a lawyer this fall: Kardashian stars as an attorney in Hulu’s upcoming Ryan Murphy show All’s Fair. Maybe practicing law in the Murphy-verse will be good practice?
