Introducing the Outer Reef 780 Adventure

Jeff Druek, the President and CEO of Outer Reef Yachts, had a distinct type of yacht owner in mind when he set out to create the 780 Adventure.

“Our typical client with our Classic series is traditional. They come out of Burgers and old Chris-Crafts that have really shippy lines, or they’re sailboaters who are used to Swans and Hinckleys. But there is a bigger market for something that is a little more contemporary,” Druek says. “I see a lot of young entrepreneurs—the dot-com boom or whatever it is—these people are in their late 20s to late 40s and have a lot of expendable wealth and want to be in yachting. They’re more adventurous than your average 60- or 70-year-old client that wants to do coastal cruising and drop an anchor in the Bahamas.”

Hence the 780 Adventure’s updated exterior styling, steel hull, oversize toy locker (big enough for an optional dive center), fin stabilizer system, wind-protected aft-deck seating, and broad views of the outdoors from the inside. The entire package is intended to appeal to owners with a go-everywhere attitude, including robust construction techniques and systems that can turn all kinds of ideas into actual possibilities.

That’s important because while a lot of people say they wish to do that type of cruising, Druek notes, the 780 Adventure is built for the 20 percent who actually do it—or who are preparing to do it just as soon as time allows.

“They’re dreamers, and there’s nothing wrong with being a dreamer, but life gets in the middle with kids or business and they can’t get away,” he says. “But they like to know in the back of their mind that they can.”

Layout Options

Outer Reef gives owners a choice of plans to tailor this yacht for different needs. Up top, there can be sun pads or tender space. The main-deck salon can be extended. And the lower deck can include three or four guest staterooms.

Super Cool

The 780 Adventure has a reported range of 3,200 nautical miles, and ice ratings are an option.
