Fresh off sea trials in the waters off Curaçao, the new Super Sub from U-Boat Worx is set for delivery to its first owner in the coming weeks. Billed as the fastest private submersible yet, the craft pairs a reported 100 kW of horizontal thrust with a top speed of 9 knots—numbers that translate into a markedly different experience beneath the surface.

The Super Sub is designed to operate down to about 984 feet (300 meters) with a range of up to 10 nautical miles. During trials, engineers pushed the vessel through steep 45-degree ascents and descents, highlighting a handling profile that leans more toward performance craft than traditional submersibles. The result is a sensation closer to controlled underwater flight than conventional deep-sea cruising.

Testing in Curaçao focused not only on speed and maneuverability but also on safety systems. The sub carries DNV approval and incorporates redundant life-support and control architecture, along with a sonar system that continuously scans terrain and adjusts trajectory as the vessel approaches its depth limits.

Inside, a clear acrylic pressure hull provides panoramic visibility, while a compact, ergonomic cockpit keeps pilot and passengers oriented within the surrounding seascape. The setup is intended to balance immersion with control—whether surveying reefs and walls or conducting broader-area reconnaissance during a single dive window.

Conceived for integration aboard yachts or as a standalone exploration platform, the Super Sub reflects a shift in private submersible design. Where earlier models emphasized endurance and access, this one adds speed and agility to the equation, expanding how owners can experience the underwater world.
