The world looked a lot different when the last A Court of Thorns and Roses book was released four years ago. We had a different president, different pope, there was a Hulu adaptation of the book series in the works… A Court of Silver Flames was born into a completely unrecognizable era. Now, with a new, well, everything and no TV series planned at the moment, it begs the question: when is Sarah J. Maas planning on releasing ACOTAR 6 ? Can a new book revive interest in an on-screen adaptation from Hollywood and become Maas’s biggest twist so far?
What has Sarah J. Maas said so far?
Maas has been working on a sixth book for a long as far back as 2023, even before her most recent release, House of Flame and Shadow, came out. When promoting her most recent book from the Crescent City series in 2024, she told the Today Show she was “very, very excited” for the upcoming addition. Her most recent update came through Spotify in December, as she was the top author for the 2024 Spotify Wrapped. “I’m not gonna tell you guys anything” about the sixth book,” Maas teased in a video. “No surprise, it’s going to be a long book. It’s too early for me to tell you who it will be about and what’s going to happen, but I hope to have more details for you soon.” How soon? Not soon enough! While she didn’t have an update for the tenth anniversary of the first ACOTAR book, she did leave a few Easter Eggs, like a quote from Feyre inside of an autograph.
Okay, what about an ACOTAR tv show?
Last Valentine’s Day weekend, Hulu confirmed that an ACOTAR show was no longer in development and that Maas is waiting until Summer 2025 to shop it around again, the time when her contract with the streamer is over.
