Ariana DeBose Says She Didn’t Do the Thing

Who’s saying “Bone apple tea” and eating up the backlash against Snow White lead Rachel Zegler? Not Ariana DeBose —according to her, at least. DeBose claimed on Tuesday evening that she didn’t know that she’d recirculated criticism of her former West Side Story co-star. Earlier today, in a since-deleted Instagram post set to Beyoncé’s “Cozy,” DeBose shared a graphic with the quote, “Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.” That remark was made last week by Snow White producer Marc Platt’s son Jonah Platt, in a statement that took aim at Zegler for “dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting” the Disney film. (His statement was shared in defense of his dad, following Variety’s report that the producer had flown across the country to try to get Zegler to delete a tweet in support of Palestine.)

In an Instagram Story statement that did not mention Zegler by name, DeBose later suggested that she wasn’t knowingly being shady. “I post quotes all the time and thought this one was meaningful. Will fully cop to the fact I did not do any research on where this quote came from, nor did I know of the connection until it was pointed out to me,” she wrote. “I have no intention of inserting myself into a news cycle. This is not the first time I’ve posted about dealing with narcissism and it probably won’t be the last, but next time I’ll be sure to clarify its origins first.”
