Disney to Keep the Snow White Cast Locked Away in Its Castle

Disney is acting a bit grumpy in how it’s managing the promotion of its upcoming movie Snow White. Or maybe the movie’s stars are just feeling a bit bashful! Disney is not allowing actual journalists onto the red carpet for the premiere of Snow White, instead inviting just photographers and house interviewers, per Variety. Typically, there are dozens of media outlets invited. The premiere will happen on March 15 and be held at El Capitan Theater, with both Rachel Zegler (Snow White) and Gal Gadot (the Evil Queen) predicted to attend.

The list of things Disney might not want journalists to ask its cast about with this movie is long and of varying levels of importance. The most obvious is the ongoing conflict in Palestine — Gadot is Israeli and has posted in support of Israel since the October 7 attacks, while Zegler has posted in support of Palestine. However, there are other controversies surrounding this movie, including some Disney fans’ negative reaction to Zegler’s casting because she is Latina and controversy over Zegler characterizing the original film’s romance negatively, saying that Prince Charming “literally stalks” Snow White at the 2022 D23 Expo. Additionally, when the film was announced, Peter Dinklage criticized it, calling the story “backwards” for its depiction of “seven dwarfs living in a cave together.” In response, Disney said at the time that “We are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.” Would be interested to hear about how that process worked on set … if anyone … were allowed to ask …
