Long walks on the beach are out; long runs on the beach while someone is chasing you and screaming “Montoya, por favor!” are in. The internet is currently obsessed with a video that begins with a man named Montoya sinking to his knees while watching a live feed of his girlfriend, Anita, cheating on him with somebody else. Once he gets up, he starts sprinting down the shore to go find her. And although the clip is from a Spanish reality-TV show, his distress has transcended global barriers and been translated into a universal language: memes. Below, here’s what to know about the drama unfolding on La Isla de las Tentaciones, including context on who these people are, what happened before and after the much-memed moment, and whether you can tune in to watch the rest of the season.

What show is this?

It’s the reality series La Isla de las Tentaciones, which is the Spanish version of Temptation Island. The premise is that couples come to a tropical island to test their faithfulness to each other. The men and women are split into separate villas, and a bunch of attractive, horny singles then try to tempt them into having affairs. Naturally, there are cameras rolling so that the participants can have the chance to check up on what (or who) their other half is doing. Why sign up for this? The couples that participate are usually at a critical juncture in their relationship, and believe that proving their loyalty could help them.

Who are Montoya and Anita?

30-year-old José Carlos Montoya and 26-year-old Anita Williams signed up for season eight after dating for one year. Brave! According to a couple bio shared by Telecinco, these two lovebirds actually met on a different reality show, El Conquistador, but didn’t cross paths until the very end. They began their relationship as a long-distance couple, which apparently stirred up some insecurities. The pair want to have a baby together and decided to come on La Isla de las Tentaciones to test their relationship first.

Did Montoya or Anita cheat first?

Let’s go through a quick timeline. After entering the villa, a single named Manuel set his sights on Anita. They ended up kissing in a pool. When Montoya saw the make-out footage during the men’s first bonfire ceremony, he was so upset that he ripped open his shirt. He sent an iPad flying, running off as host Sandra Barneda called, “Montoya, por favor.” (Little did she know how many more times she would end up having to say that.)

At another bonfire ceremony, Montoya was upset to see Anita and Manuel chatting in bed. And then it was his turn to make his girlfriend upset. At a game night, a single named Gabriella twerked on Montoya’s face and gave him a lap dance. Anita was … not amused by the close contact, and walked off after seeing the footage.

Anita’s next act of revenge triggered the birth of an infamous meme.

What happened in the “Montoya, por favor” clip?

Montoya dropped to his knees as he watched a live feed of Anita and Manuel in bed. As the pair had sex for the night-vision camera, Montoya screamed and sprinted down the beach to the women’s villa. Host Sandra Barneda followed him, calling, “Montoya, por favor!”

And Montoya’s being memed?

Sí. Because you don’t need to speak Spanish to understand how he’s feeling.

What happened to Montoya and Anita afterward?

Since the season is still ongoing, we can’t say for sure where they’ll stand by the finale. But in the immediate aftermath of the beach sprint, Anita was angry at Montoya. However, she later felt apologetic and went looking for her boyfriend on the beach. Since it’s against the rules for separated couples to have contact like that, host Sandra Barneda ended up physically separating the pair. She also told them that there would be consequences for this violation.

The punishment turned out to be that neither Anita nor Montoya would get to watch footage firsthand. Instead, they had to undergo the unique embarrassment of hearing their castmates describe what they were seeing — including Montoya engaging in some bedroom activities of his own.

On social media, Montoya has playfully acknowledged the memes with an Instagram post in which he jogs across a beach. Anita, meanwhile, recently posted an Instagram video with a caption suggesting that lately, she’s learning from everything and bringing out the best version of herself.

Where can I watch this show?

Depends on where you live. La Isla de las Tentaciones is currently only available to watch in Spain (though of course some people are trying their luck by using a VPN to access the Telecinco site).
