It may not always be a great idea to invite vampires into your home, but we’ll make an exception for Sinners. This year’s hit vampire thriller will be streaming on Max on Friday, July 4, with a linear TV premiere on HBO the next day — not bad for a holiday weekend. It is already available to buy and rent digitally and on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD.
Ryan Coogler’s original thriller entranced moviegoing audiences, notching an impressive $45 million over its opening weekend alone, so we had wondered when it would get its second life on digital and streaming platforms. The film proved so popular that Warner Bros. Discovery even rereleased it in 70-mm. Imax from May 15 to 21. It has now made over $250 million domestically.
WBD has usually timed its PVOD premieres about a month after a film’s theater debut, followed by a streaming release a couple months later. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, one of WBD’s more financially successful films of 2024 (apologies to Joker: Folie à Deux), premiered theatrically on September 6 and was available on PVOD by October 8 before heading to Max on December 6. Dune: Part Two and Mickey 17 had somewhat similar windows. The Sinners theatrical release on April 18, PVOD bow in early June, and streaming drop in early July means it had a little extra time to collect both Imax and rental receipts.
