The Rise of PS: A New Era in Pre-Flight Luxury
In the ever-evolving landscape of air travel, a new concept is emerging that bridges the gap between first-class airline lounges and private Fixed Base Operators (FBOs) for business jets. Formerly known as the Private Suite, the Los Angeles-based company has rebranded itself as PS, offering an innovative approach to luxury travel. With recent expansions at Miami International and Dallas-Fort Worth airports, PS is redefining pre-flight experiences for commercial airline travelers, providing the upscale comforts typically reserved for private jet passengers.
A Unique Position in Air Travel
Amina Belouizdad Porter, CEO of PS, articulates the brand’s unique positioning: “We sit in a space that, until now, didn’t really exist. [It’s] the white space between commercial and private air travel.” This statement encapsulates PS’s mission to offer an exclusive experience that combines the best elements of both worlds.
PS opened its inaugural location nearly nine years ago at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Instead of navigating the congested entryway typical of major airports, guests arrive at a separate facility located two miles away, across the airfield. The LAX location features 12 individual suites, each staffed by a dedicated team of no fewer than eight people, making it a game-changer for Hollywood’s elite and other affluent travelers.
Expanding Horizons
In late 2023, PS expanded its footprint by opening a second location at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), the busiest airport in the world. This 8,575-square-foot facility includes three private suites and a shared salon, all bathed in natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a front-row view of planes taking off. The demand for such luxurious amenities is growing, particularly among A-listers and entertainment industry professionals frequently traveling between LAX and ATL.
Construction is also underway for new facilities at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Miami International Airport (MIA), both scheduled to open by spring 2026. The DFW location will feature 12,200 square feet of private suites and shared lounges, while the MIA facility will be housed in the historic former Pan American Airways headquarters, boasting five private suites, two salons, and a day spa.
The PS Experience
While commercial terminal lounges have improved their offerings in recent years, they often lack the exclusivity and privacy that PS provides. Operating as a fixed-base operator for commercial flights, PS features purpose-built facilities separate from main airport buildings, complete with its own TSA security and immigration processes. This setup allows for seamless access to aircraft airside, ensuring a smooth travel experience.
Unlike traditional FBOs, which cater exclusively to private jets, PS welcomes commercial airline travelers seeking a more luxurious experience without the exorbitant costs associated with private flights. This unique model has attracted a niche market of travelers who desire the private-jet experience at a fraction of the price.
Thoughtful Design and Amenities
Belouizdad Porter has learned valuable lessons from PS’s gradual development. The new facilities at DFW and MIA will include dedicated showers and separate dining spaces, enhancing the overall experience. Travelers can choose between private suites for complete privacy or shared lounges ideal for solo travelers or small groups.
The Miami facility will reflect the city’s vibrant culture, featuring design elements like terrazzo, marble, and patterns reminiscent of Lilly Pulitzer and Marimekko. At DFW, a central bar will offer plush lounge seating with runway views, while a fully private TSA checkpoint ensures a seamless airport process.
Culinary Delights and Signature Offerings
All PS facilities boast an extensive menu of complimentary cocktails and chef-prepared meals, along with spa services available for an additional fee. Surprisingly, the most popular item on the menu is the signature PS burger, which has garnered rave reviews and become a beloved staple among guests.
Pricing and Membership Options
Pricing at PS is structured on a per-usage basis, with a private suite costing $4,850 for up to four travelers and the salon priced at $1,095 per person. Discounts are available for annual membership, which is recommended for frequent travelers. Membership benefits include priority reservations, complimentary valet parking, and spa services.
A Bright Future
“Business is strong and still growing,” says Belouizdad Porter, noting that word-of-mouth referrals have significantly contributed to PS’s success. The company often reaches capacity during peak travel times, especially around the holidays, indicating a robust demand for its unique offerings.
As PS continues to expand and innovate, it stands poised to redefine the luxury travel experience, offering a blend of privacy, comfort, and exclusivity that is unmatched in the current air travel landscape.
