Update 10:50 p.m.: Now Beyoncé is holding the Allegiant Stadium, per Pop Crave. (Thank you, Pop Crave.) That is where the Cowboy Carter tour is set to conclude in July.
Original story follows.
Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour was hit with a cease and desist Friday from the bigwigs at Sphere. According to the New York Post, James Dolan and the Sphere Entertainment Group sent a strongly worded letter to Parkwood Entertainment objecting to the use of Las Vegas’s newest landmark in the Cowboy Carter visuals. “Beyoncé — many orders of magnitude larger than the Sphere venue — leans over, picks up the venue, and looms over it,” the letter read. Oh, so you’re scared of strong, giant women?
SEG’s actual beef is not the size of Beyoncé relative to Sphere, but rather that the depiction of the venue lends credence to those rumors that Mrs. Carter was going to do a residency there. The letter says the tour visuals “resulted in significant speculation that Beyoncé will end her tour with a Sphere residency.” A cease and desist is definitely one way to quash a rumor. Parkwood has until Monday to get Sphere out of the tour, after which time SEG “reserves all rights to take further action as SEG deems appropriate without notice.”
