Is there a star today who would take the role of choosing a Palme d’Or winner more seriously than Jeremy Strong? He’s the perfect jury member for this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Four of the past five Palme winners were nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars (with two winning), encouraging larger audiences to see non-English-language films like Anatomy of a Fall and Parasite. With that in mind, here’s a rundown of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, including the jury, the dates, and confirmed honors.

Who’s on the jury?

Juliette Binoche is the jury president this year. She’ll be joined by a slew of notables from across the film world: American actors Strong and Halle Berry, Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia (All We Imagine As Light), Italian actress Alba Rohrwacher (I Am Love), and the French Moroccan writer Leïla Slimani (Adèle). Plus there are Congolese documentarian Dieudo Hamadi (Downstream to Kinshasa), South Korean filmmaker Hong Sang-soo (Walk Up), and Mexican filmmaker Carlos Reygadas (Silent Light).

What movies are on the lineup?

Find the full lineup here. Some of the most anticipated movies of the festival are Ari Aster’s Eddington, Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme, Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind, and Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value. But nobody knew what to anticipate fully with Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance last year, and that was one of the festival’s biggest breakout successes, so it’s smart to keep an open mind.

When is it happening?

The festival kicks off on May 13, and ends on May 24, with the winners broadcast live at the closing ceremony on France Télévisions in France and by Brut internationally.

Any awards for sure?

Tribeca Festival founder Robert De Niro will be winning an honorary Palme d’Or across the pond this year, as confirmed on April 7. “I have such close feelings for Festival de Cannes,” De Niro said in response, according to a press release. “Especially now when there’s so much in the world pulling us apart, Cannes brings us together — storytellers, filmmakers, fans, and friends. It’s like coming home.”

Anything else I need to know?

It’s pronounced like can.
