The Virgin Lorde hath birthed a new album. Following the release of her first single since 2021, “What Was That,” Lorde confirmed on social media and on her website that her next album, titled Virgin, is coming out June 27. “The colour of the album is clear,” she wrote in a newsletter. “Like bathwater, windows, ice, spit. Full transparency. The language is plain and unsentimental. The sounds are the same wherever possible. I was trying to see myself, all the way through. I was trying to make a document that reflected my femininity: raw, primal, innocent, elegant, masc.” On her website, she confirmed collaborators on the record Jim-E Stack, Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, Buddy Ross, Dan Nigro, and Devonté Hynes (who is better known as Blood Orange). Stack and Nigro worked on “What Was That.” The album is mixed by Spike Stent and Tom Elmhirst. Stent, in particular, is a music-industry legend known for working with Madonna and Björk, while Elmhirst is best known for working with Adele.
On social media, Lorde posted what appears to be the album cover — an X-ray of a pelvis with a zipper, a belt buckle, a button, and an IUD on top. The album’s release date will be just 11 days after the anniversary of Melodrama, on June 16. Guess the girl loves herself a Pride Month release.
