Prison time hasn’t stopped Tory Lanez from harassing Megan Thee Stallion, she says. The rapper sought a restraining order against the musician who shot her, claiming he was using hip-hop bloggers to intimidate her. On January 9, Megan was granted the order after testifying during an emotional hearing.
A “conspiratorial relationship”
Megan Thee Stallion’s legal fight with Tory Lanez still isn’t over. On December 17, the rapper filed for a restraining order against Lanez, who was convicted of assault with a semiautomatic weapon for the 2022 shooting of Megan. Per TMZ, Megan is claiming that Lanez has been harassing her from behind bars via a number of hip-hop bloggers, including one named Milagro (whom Megan is currently suing). She’s seeking an order to keep Lanez from contacting or harassing her, including through third parties. The lawsuit includes tweets from as recently as October from Milagro (born Milagro Elizabeth Cooper), alleging Lanez was innocent of the shooting.
Megan claims Lanez has a “conspiratorial relationship” with Milagro, citing a prison phone conversation between Lanez and his father about payments to the blogger. After news of the lawsuit broke, Milagro tweeted, “I don’t feel the need to react emotionally to internet fodder. I don’t need to prove a thing to the court of public opinion. The truth will be in black and white and filed with the courts not the blogs.” In Megan’s earlier lawsuit against Milagro in October, she said the alleged harassment she received from bloggers was “unacceptable behavior.”
Megan is granted “peace”
January 10, 2025: Megan has been granted a five-year restraining order against Lanez, after she accused him of harassing her via bloggers. Megan, born Megan Pete, testified over video during the January 9 hearing. “I haven’t been at peace since I been shot, and I’m just trying to be un-harassed, not only by the person who shot me, but by the people he’s been paying to continue to harass me,” Megan said, per Rolling Stone. “I probably won’t ever have my own peace about the situation, but I just really want the harassment from the person who shot me to stop.” At one point, she broke down in tears. “I’m scared that even when he gets out of jail, he’s going to still be upset with me, and I don’t know if he’s going to continue being violent toward me,” she said.
Lanez is currently serving a ten-year sentence in California. His attorney argued the restraining order was unnecessary with Lanez already in prison, adding that it would restrict his free speech. But the judge disputed those concerns. “We have a shooting that took place, and with a violent act like that, there’s a ripple effect that continues on,” said Judge Richard Bloom. “Ms. Pete’s testimony is that the ripple effect has been significant.”
