Napster, the music streamer that you probably remember as a short-lived file-sharing service, is actually worth something in 2025. CNBC reported the brand was acquired for $207 million by Infinite Reality, a tech company in the metaverse space. You knew that part was coming. “I think there’s no better name than Napster to disrupt,” CEO John Acunto told CNBC. As to what that disruption will look like, Acunto laid out plans to use Napster for virtual listening parties, concerts, and merch sales. “We just don’t see anybody in the streaming space creating spaces for music,” he added.
