Robert Eggers is having a good week and bringing more critters to celebrate with him. On Wednesday, he announced his next thriller, Werwulf, and then on Thursday, his most recent film Nosferatu scored four Oscar nominations. Now, Eggers will work with some new creatures, big and small. The InSneider reported late last year that Eggers would replace Scott Derrickson as the director of a new Labyrinth sequel with TriStar Pictures and Jim Henson Pictures. Eggers is reportedly writing the script with his The Northman co-writer Sjón. Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, and Lisa Henson are producing, and Brian Henson is executive producing the film. Vulture has reached out to Eggers and TriStar Pictures to confirm.

The path to a sequel was a labyrinth in itself. Derrickson wasn’t the first director linked to the project; originally, in 2017, Alien: Romulus’s Fede Álvarez was attached to direct with a script written by Marvel’s Nicole Perlman. However, they both eventually left the project before Derrickson hopped on board with Maggie Levin co-writing the script with him. Thankfully, the wheels never stopped turning to get us another Jim Henson Company production; we need puppets now more than ever.
