Hi, it’s Charli XCX on a Selena Gomez song — you’re all in danger. The “Spring Breakers” singer makes an appearance on the Spring Breakers star’s song “Bluest Flame,” off Gomez and fiancé Benny Blanco’s new album, I Said I Love You First. “I just wanna go all night, I just wanna go insane / Touching in the summer rain, hotter than the bluest flame,” Gomez speak-rap-sings in Charli’s cadence with Charli adding backing vocals. Gomez and Blanco commit to the homage, drenching Gomez’s voice in Auto-Tune in the verse and adding a squelchy, SOPHIE-esque interlude. (They had more help in addition to Charli — the track also features production from 100 gecs’s Dylan Brady, who worked on Charli’s 2020 album, how i’m feeling now.) The happy couple have said the album traces the arc of their relationship, so did they have a Brat Summer too?

Gomez and Blanco’s connection with Charli does go deeper than their shared works titled Spring Breakers (though Gomez did take the opportunity to debut the song at an anniversary screening on March 19). Blanco worked with Charli on her 2014 album, Sucker, co-writing the tracks “Caught in the Middle” and “So Over You.” Shortly after, Charli and Blanco both worked on “Same Old Love” for Gomez — one of Blanco’s first tracks with his now-fiancée. So, yeah, they better be inviting Charli to the wedding.
