AAAHhhhhh! AAAhhhhh! There used to be one movie and now there’s gonna be two! Could you, like, chill for a second? A sequel to the 2003 version of Freaky Friday, called Freakier Friday and starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, is in the works and heading to theaters this year. Between this and the live-action Lilo & Stitch adaptation, this is about to be a big year for Disney and LiLos. Below, find everything we know about the sequel.

What is Freakier Friday about?

The Freakier Friday teaser, which dropped March 14, is set to Chappell Roan’s “H-O-T T-O G-O” because famous redheads stick together. The trailer focuses on a body mash-up between Jamie Lee Curtis’s and Lindsay Lohan’s returning characters, Tess and Anna Coleman, plus Anna’s daughter, Harper (Julia Butters), and future stepdaughter, Lily (Sophia Hammonds). That’s right, it’s a rare four-way swap. “My face looks like a Birkin bag that’s been left out in the sun to rot,” Curtis says of her own face, post-body-swapping. We’d kill whoever wrote that line if it were about us, but screenwriter Jordan Weiss is still alive, so JLC really is a trouper.

Who is returning to Freakier Friday?

Both Lohan and Curtis are ready to get freaky one more time, as Anna Coleman and her mom, Tess. They’re again joined by Mark Harmon and Chad Michael Murray. Plus, there’s Maitreyi Ramakrishnan from Never Have I Ever, Saturday Night Live alum Vanessa Bayer, and The Good Place star Manny Jacinto. Nisha Ganatra (Welcome to Chippendales) is directing.

How long has this been in the works?

Disney first confirmed in a New York Times retrospective interview in May 2023 that a sequel to the film was in development, with both stars in talks to return. “As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday,” Curtis told the Times on the subject of a sequel. “Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’” So, everybody, please say, “Thank you, Jamie Lee Curtis.”

When can I see it?

Freakier Friday comes out in theaters August 8. We do kind of think they should have put it out on April Fools’ Day, but what do we know? Maybe we just want to see it sooner.
