Will Bravo Hit Pause on The Real Housewives of New York?

Is Bravo putting these apples on ice? On May 9, “Page Six” reported that The Real Housewives of New York City is going off air indefinitely, citing an unnamed inside source who noted that the network does have “hopes” to bring it back one day. “We’re trying to figure that show out. We want to figure it out. We think there’s still life in it,” the insider said, pointing out that Real Housewives of Miami came back after an eight-year hiatus. According to the report, execs expect RHONY to return, just not with all of its current cast … though casting is said to be going poorly, because people aren’t interested in joining a show that has generated so much mess.

Bravo did not include RHONY on the network’s May 7 announcement of upcoming programming, but it seemingly hasn’t written the show off yet. Following the “Page Six” report, a network spokesperson said in a statement to Us Weekly, “Nothing is official. The show hasn’t been canceled.” Andy Cohen also reshared a Threads post from Variety’s Kate Aurthur, who called the “Page Six” piece “weird.” Aurthur also claimed, “Nothing has happened with RHONY that’s different from before Bravo made those announcements earlier this week.” Meanwhile, current cast members have apparently been waiting for updates just like the rest of us. “What an emotional rollercoaster,” Jessel Taank commented on an Instagram post of Us Weekly’s headline. “I thought I was going to have to go back to filming [my husband] @thewiiingman taco eating content permanently.” On her Instagram Story, Sai De Silva assured followers that recent reports were “just fake news.”

Some people were convinced that the show had been canceled, though. RHONY alum Bethenny Frankel reacted to the “poetic” and “bittersweet” news in a TikTok posted on Friday. “It is the end of an era for me personally, and for that show, which was an alchemy of disaster,” she said. Frankel was part of the original cast when RHONY premiered in 2008. The show — which also featured Kelly Bensimon, Luann de Lesseps, Dorinda Medley, Sonja Morgan, Carole Radziwill, Jill Zarin, and more — was later rebooted in 2023 with Taank, De Silva, Jenna Lyons, Ubah Hassan, Erin Lichy, and Brynn Whitfield. In her video, Frankel implied that the relaunch was partly to blame for the show’s demise. “If you try to please everybody, you please nobody,” she said. “So they cast this glossy, curated version of what they thought people wanted New York City to be, instead of just a group of friends that live in New York City being ridiculous, crazy, imperfect, making mistakes, lying, cheating, stealing, copying, berating, in some cases, shitting their pants.” That’s right, Bethenny … mention it all.
