Woman shot in head while driving on I-595 in Davie

Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on a busy South Florida highway.

It happened Friday at approximately 7:50 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-595 just east of Hiatus Road.

According to authorities, rescue units responded to reports of a shooting at the listed location on the highway.

Upon arrival, officials said they found a woman who had been shot in the head.

The victim was transported to Broward Health Medical Center as a trauma alert.

Police described the suspect vehicle as an older model Dodge.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led up the shooting.
