The New Pegasus 67: A Larger Evolution of the Pegasus 50

The sailing community has long awaited a larger version of the acclaimed Pegasus 50, and the new Pegasus 67 is here to answer that call. Designed with owner-drivers in mind, this yacht promises to deliver the performance and ease of handling that sailors crave, all while maintaining a manageable size.

A Proven Design

The Pegasus 50 has garnered attention as one of the standout yachts in recent years, known for its exceptional performance in lighter winds and a thoughtfully designed deck and cockpit layout. This design caters to short-handed sailors, making it ideal for serious passages. Since its inception in 2019, the Slovenian yard has built 18 units of the Pegasus 50, and the demand for a larger model has led to the creation of the Pegasus 67.

Performance Meets Manageability

The Pegasus 67 is crafted to provide the performance of a 65-foot-plus hull while retaining the handling ease of a 55-foot yacht. Designer Marko Pas emphasizes that the goal is to create a vessel that couples can confidently sail even on windy days. Interestingly, the focus is not solely on length; instead, volume and displacement play crucial roles in the design. The aim is to keep the yacht under 25 tonnes loaded, a significant advantage over similar-sized cruising yachts that often weigh around 10 tonnes more.

Streamlined Design Philosophy

To achieve this lightweight design, the Pegasus 67 minimizes unnecessary hull volume and maintains a comparatively narrow beam. This approach not only enhances performance but also makes the yacht appear visually smaller, alleviating concerns for potential sailors intimidated by larger vessels. The internal hull volume is comparable to that of a 57-59 foot yacht, with the design team opting to extend the hull forward rather than adding a bowsprit. This decision enhances performance, provides a softer entry, and maximizes sail locker space while creating room for a dinghy garage and gangway.

Innovative Sailing Features

The Pegasus 67 is engineered for speed rather than sheer volume. While many modern monohulls feature wide aft beams and tall sail plans to compensate for weight, the Pegasus philosophy embraces a "less is more" approach. The design focuses on total boat displacement rather than just length, allowing for a lower mast height and reduced sail area, making it easier to manage.

The yacht is tailored for light wind sailing and serious passagemaking, with features designed for ease of use. Offwind sails can remain rigged on furlers, and all lines and reef controls are led to the cockpit, ensuring that the mainsheet is safely positioned on a fixed arch.

Thoughtful Interior Layout

The cockpit of the Pegasus 67 is designed for all-weather sailing, featuring a composite roof and windshield that are integral to the design. The saloon, galley, and cockpit are centrally located and connected by just two steps, enhancing accessibility and comfort.

The interior layout offers significant advantages over the Pegasus 50, including the option for two aft cabins, allowing for configurations of three or four cabins with two or three heads. The owner’s cabin can be a luxurious super-suite, occupying the full area forward of the main bulkhead.

Comprehensive Cruising Features

The Pegasus 67 is equipped for bluewater sailing, with a thorough fitout that includes redundancy for all major systems, such as autopilot, watermaker, pumps, batteries, and charging systems. Two technical lockers are provided for pumps and electrics, ensuring that everything is organized and easily accessible.

Constructed using vacuum-infused epoxy or Vinylester, the yacht features a hybrid of glass and carbon fibers on a PVC core, ensuring durability and performance. The first Pegasus 67 is expected to be ready by early 2027, with a standard price that includes a comprehensive specification, such as a painted hull, Estec decking, a carbon mast, sails including a Code 0, thrusters, and air conditioning.
