Mobilizing for Change

In a powerful demonstration of solidarity and resilience, the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners (Clippve) has invited families of detainees, released individuals, human rights defenders, and supportive citizens to engage in a week of peaceful marches dubbed the “Route of Pending Answers.” Scheduled from September 7 to 13, 2026, this initiative aims to shine a light on the ongoing plight of those unjustly incarcerated for political reasons.

Demanding Accountability

The core of Clippve’s mission revolves around the urgent need for concrete responses from state institutions regarding the status of political prisoners. Despite numerous reports, requests, and meetings held over several months, many families have encountered silence or only partial responses to their inquiries. Among the most alarming issues highlighted is the arbitrary transfer of 32 political prisoners from the El Rodeo I prison, an action that raises further concerns about their treatment and rights.

A Week of Actions

Each day of the march is dedicated to a specific institution, emphasizing the need for accountability at every level of government:

  • Monday, September 7: A gathering at the Defensoría del Pueblo to demand protective actions, visitation rights to detention centers, and urgent attention to critical cases.
  • Wednesday, September 9: Participants will converge at the Ministerio Público (Attorney General’s Office) to insist on investigations and actions regarding previously filed complaints.
  • Friday, September 11: The march will culminate at the Palacio de Miraflores, where demonstrators will call for commitments to be transformed into actionable decisions towards the freedom of the detained.
  • Sunday, September 13: A grand vigil will take place in public squares across Venezuela and in cities around the world, inviting individuals to join in unity and remembrance.

Voices of Hope

Clippve encourages participants to carry the names of their loved ones who remain behind bars and to collectively document the responses that have yet to be received. This communal effort aims to list the names of detainees, the duration of their incarceration, the requests made on their behalf, and the commitments that have not been fulfilled. In their poignant message, the committee stresses that receiving a letter is not the same as providing an answer, and that mere announcements of reviews do not equate to resolving individual cases. Listening to families is insufficient if no further action is taken.

Unity in Action

Emphasizing the importance of inclusive dialogue, Clippve insists that any future discussions involving the government must effectively address the situations of political prisoners and their families. Composed of mothers, fathers, wives, children, and human rights advocates, the organization reaffirms its commitment to peaceful mobilization and calls for civic solidarity under the banners of #QueHayaRespuesta, #RutaDeLasRespuestas, and #LibertadParaLosPresosPolíticos. Their rallying cry echoes a profound truth: “Freedom also saves lives.”

Echoes in Miami

In the vibrant city of Miami, home to a large Venezuelan diaspora, the upcoming marches resonate deeply within the community. Local organizations and citizens are encouraged to show their support, whether through participation in the events or by amplifying the message across social media platforms. The plight of political prisoners in Venezuela is not merely a distant issue; it is a matter that impacts families and friends right here in Miami, creating a strong bond of empathy and shared struggle.
