Armed Robbery Linked to Facebook Marketplace Sale in Delaware, Ohio

In a shocking incident that underscores the potential dangers of online transactions, two men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery involving a luxury watch sale arranged through Facebook Marketplace. The event, which took place on July 30, 2025, has raised concerns about safety in online marketplaces and the risks associated with meeting strangers for transactions.

The Incident

The robbery unfolded when a minor agreed to meet a buyer at a Cane’s restaurant in Delaware, Ohio, to sell luxury watches valued at an impressive $11,100. What began as a seemingly straightforward transaction quickly escalated into a terrifying ordeal. Upon arriving at the designated meeting spot, the minor entered a Honda sedan driven by 18-year-old Mohamed A. Mohamed. It was at this moment that another individual, 22-year-old Abdi-Najib Ahmed Hamoud, emerged from the backseat, brandishing a firearm and demanding the watches.

Witnesses reported that the driver, Mohamed, encouraged the minor with a casual "come on bro," further adding to the alarming nature of the encounter. The brazen act of violence not only put the minor’s life at risk but also highlighted the vulnerabilities that can arise in seemingly innocuous situations.

Law Enforcement Response

Following the incident, law enforcement agencies quickly mobilized to investigate the robbery. Utilizing advanced technology, police employed Flock cameras to trace the vehicle involved in the crime. This surveillance technology played a crucial role in identifying Mohamed as the driver. The minor was able to recognize him in a photo lineup, providing a significant lead for investigators.

Further examination of Mohamed’s phone revealed incriminating evidence. Photos showed him wearing the stolen watch and holding a firearm that matched the description of the weapon used during the robbery. Additionally, investigators discovered a search for the Cane’s restaurant address on the day of the incident, linking Mohamed directly to the premeditated nature of the crime. His Facebook account was also tied to the arrangement of the meeting with the minor, further solidifying the case against him.

The Pursuit and Arrests

The investigation took a dramatic turn when Hamoud was apprehended by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. During the pursuit, he allegedly ran over a deputy’s foot, showcasing the lengths to which he was willing to go to evade capture. Both suspects were ultimately arrested and charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery, a serious offense that carries significant legal repercussions.

Legal Proceedings and Consequences

As the legal process unfolds, both Mohamed and Hamoud face serious charges that could lead to lengthy prison sentences. Hamoud is currently being held on a $350,000 surety bond, while Mohamed’s bond is set at $250,000. In a precautionary measure, both individuals have been ordered to wear electronic monitors for house arrest or GPS monitoring upon their release.

Safety Concerns in Online Transactions

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with online marketplaces. While platforms like Facebook Marketplace offer convenient ways to buy and sell items, they also expose users to risks, particularly when meeting strangers in person. It is crucial for individuals engaging in such transactions to take necessary precautions, such as meeting in public places, bringing a friend, and being aware of their surroundings.

Conclusion

The armed robbery in Delaware, Ohio, highlights the intersection of technology and crime, raising important questions about safety in the digital age. As law enforcement continues to investigate and prosecute the suspects, the community is left to grapple with the implications of this alarming event. It serves as a cautionary tale for anyone considering online transactions, emphasizing the need for vigilance and awareness in an increasingly interconnected world.
